Chateau de La Bourlie is special. near the tiny village of Urval in the Périgord noir, also known as Sarladais, is a traditional natural region of France, which corresponds roughly to the Southeast of the current Dordogne département, now forming the eastern part of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine région. It is centered around the town of Sarlat-la-Canéda.
This part of France has been fought over for millennia and it’s easy to see why. The beautiful yellow stone combines with the marvellous Dordogne light to produce a heavenly backdrop for photographs. It’s strange that there was never a “Dordogne” school of painting. I guess the lunches were too good..
The Chateau itself is situated in a beautiful wooded valley and within easy reach of Sarlat and of course some of the most amazing regional cooking on the planet.
I have been lucky enough to have photographed weddings and events there for the last 10 years and each year it’s like seeing an old friend. Some things have changed but there is still the same connection, the same emotion.
La Bourlie is always in demand and often booked years in advance. If you are looking for the perfect venue, this has it all!
Of all the French Wedding Chateaux I work at this one has a bit of magic about it but more importantly, to me at least, there is an authenticity to it. It’s custodians understand that they are just looking after it for a brief time and it will continue to be amazing for centuries to come.
